Stroke of luck prevents armed robbery on MTSU campus

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  There was an attempted armed robbery on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University over the weekend.

Students, staff and faculty were awakened just before 2 a.m. Saturday morning by an automated campus alert message saying that a robbery had just been attempted near the intramural fields on Alumni Drive.

The university community was told to avoid the area and report any suspicious activity to police.  An all clear was issue about 5 hours later.

A police incident report says two female students were walking across campus when they were approach by three black males wearing all black. One of the men reportedly told them that they were being robbed and opened his coat to show them a gun.

At that point the victims say a larger group of students happened by and the assailants walked away without getting any money.

All three of the men are said to have been wearing black. One of the three was described as wearing a white hoodie under a black leather jacket.

Campus Police say they searched the area, but did not find the suspects. If you have information about this case, call MTSU Police at 615-898-2424.
