Investigation closed into reported Murfreesboro gang rape

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The investigation has been closed into a gang rape reported by a Murfreesboro woman back on December 1.

Police say the woman asked that the investigation be concluded after detectives could not resolve what they refer to as “inconsistencies in the alleged victims’s report of the attack.”

In the initial police report, the woman told police that she was walking along New Lascassas Pike near Middle Tennessee Blvd. when she was assaulted by six men. She reported some of the men held her down while 2 raped her.

But in a statement released Friday morning, police say the woman’s description of the attack did not match the scene. Evidence gathered at the site also reportedly did not match her story.

Police say that after several interviews with detectives, the woman asked that the investigation be terminated and that her personal belongings, taken into evidence, be returned.

Police say the woman was referred to social services.
