Exploding car airbag lands on Murf. apartment balcony

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Burning fuel and an exploding car airbag made for an interesting morning for Murfreesboro firefighters.

MFRD sent two engines and a rescue unit to fight an early Thursday morning blaze involving two cars parked at the Richland Falls Apartments on Dill Lane.

In a press statement, the department says firefighters arrived on the scene just before 7 a.m. to find one car fully engulfed in flames and the car next to it also on fire.

The first vehicle’s gas tank was involved and an exploding airbag landed on a second floor balcony.

The blaze was quickly put down with foam. No injuries were reported. Firefighters believe a mechanical problem led to the fire.
