Former Riverdale High student faces Aggravated Assault charge

RCSO

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A student who was expelled from Riverdale High earlier this month is under arrest following a confrontation that involved shots fired and a suicide threat.

Murfreesboro Police arrested 18-year-old Artavious Collier late Monday night on charges of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

In a report filed with police, Pepperdine Drive resident Matoyia Foster says Collier showed up at her home yesterday afternoon wanting to fight her teenage sons over an incident that he said occurred at Riverdale High School.

A Rutherford County Schools spokesman tells WMOT that Collier was expelled back on March 3 for bringing a gun to school. The school says Collier had an argument by phone yesterday with a student at Riverdale.

One of Matoyia Foster’s neighbors tells police that as Collier left Pepperdine Drive following the argument in Foster’s yard that someone fired several shots. Police took four empty shell casings into evidence.

A few hours later police were called to Bartway Drive where they found Collier with a gun to his head, threatening suicide. Officers were able to convince him to drop the weapon.

Artavious Collier was checked out at the St. Thomas Rutherford ER and then booked into the Rutherford County Jail on a $54,000 bond.
