MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- A Murfreesboro man was shot over the weekend, just one in string of armed robberies, assaults and shots fired incidents reported by police.
Antioch resident Kenneth B. Beard was visiting his sister at The Pointe Apartments on North Tennessee Blvd. when he says a fight broke out among a large group of people gathered in the parking lot.
Beard tells police that shots rang out and he felt a sudden pain in his left leg. He was taken to St. Thomas Rutherford hospital ER for treatment of a gunshot would to his calf. WMOT News spoke to Mr. Beard Monday morning and he is recovering.
Beard’s shooting was just one of a string of six violent incidents that took place at housing catering primarily to students attending Middle Tennessee State University. All of the incidents occurred within two miles of the heart of the campus.
The other five incidents included an armed robbery at the College Grove apartments, along with shots fired incidents at the Cove at Center Pointe and at University Gables Apartments. An MTSU student was assaulted on Castle Drive near Aspen Heights and an aggravated assault occurred at the Woodlands Apartments on N. Rutherford.
Twenty-eight-year-old Kristina M. McDonald has been arrested on a charge of Aggravated Assault in connection with the incident at the Woodlands. She’s being held on a $10,000 bond and will make an initial appearance in Rutherford County General Sessions Court in late June.
