Suspicious activity at Murfreesboro's Stones River Mall

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Murfreesboro Police are reporting a couple of odd incidents that took place at the Stones River Mall in the last week.

In documents released Tuesday morning, the MPD says it was called to the Mall back on June 27 following reports that a woman was passing out money to strangers at the mall entrance. Officers quickly identified the woman as 80-year-old Christiana resident Dorthy Hocket, the subject of an Amber Alert.

The report suggests Ms. Hocket gave away at least $360 of the $800 she’d withdrawn from the back earlier that day. Family members were called to take her back home.

This past Friday a mall security officer told the MPD that he’d been approached by what he described as an “Arabic male.” The man reportedly told the officer that he’d just seen three “unknown Arabic males” taking photos and making sketches of the mall entrance near Chuck E. Cheese.

All four men were gone when officers arrived. No descriptions were provided. The MPD plans to review security footage at the mall and also says it’s setting a special watch on the property.
