TBI data shows coronavirus having noticeable impact on Tennessee crime

TBI

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- New data from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation seems to answer the question of whether the pandemic is causing a spike in domestic assaults.

TBI on Thursday released statewide crime data for the first three months of 2020. The agency says the preliminary numbers show a four percent decline in domestic violence related incidents.

In addition, TBI says it’s seeing significant drops in the overall number of thefts and burglaries.

The news isn’t all good. There’s been a double-digit increase in incidents at some stores, liquor stores in particular.

There’s also been an increase in crimes involving a firearm.
