NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- Nashville COVID-19 Task Force Chairman Dr. Alex Jahangir is pushing back hard against national media reports listing Nashville as a coronavirus hot spot.

NBC News reported Mondayon what it described as “undisclosed data” from a White House report on infection rates. The report shows Nashville infections jumping 129 percent last week.

Dr. Jahangir notes the stated percentage increase actually represents a 12 county area in Middle Tennessee. He says Davidson County's particular infection rate actually rose just 17 precent during the period mentioned.

Jahangir went on the explain that the White House figure was unusually high for the region because it included Trousdale County where more than 1200 inmates at a state prison tested virus positive.
