Nashville DA may be in for a GOP grilling on Capitol Hill

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  A Republican lawmaker has threatened to call the Nashville District Attorney to testify before a committee of the Tennessee legislature, according to local media.

Oakridge GOP Rep. John Ragan and Nashville DA Glen Funk are embroiled in a dispute over enforcement of a recently passed state law.

The measure was approved by the GOP dominated General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Bill Lee in May. It requires that warning signs be posted outside inclusive public restrooms.

DA Funk continues to insist he won’t enforce the law in Davidson County, calling the measure “transphobic and homophobic.”

Rep. Ragan acknowledges that Tennessee’s District Attorneys do have discretion about what criminal charges they pursue, but he continues to call Funk’s refusal to enforce the transgender law “offensive.”
