TBI Report: Murders spiked 37 percent across Tennessee in 2020

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne )  --  Overall crime fell 4.5 percent last year across Tennessee, but the number of serious crimes rose sharply.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Monday released its annual state crime report for 2020.

The number of murders statewide jumped 37 percent over the previous year. There were 682 murders reported in 2020, up from 498 in 2019. Domestic homicides were also up, jumping from 85 in 2019 to 94 domestic murders this past year.

Arson, aggravated assaults and vehicle thefts were all up.

Rapes, drug crimes, and burglaries were down.
