NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Belmont University is tying its new College of Medicine more tightly to the giant Nashville based hospital company HCA Healthcare.

Belmont previously announced doctors graduating from Belmont would serve their residencies and clinical rotations at HCA’s Tri-Star hospitals here in Middle Tennessee.

HCA on Monday announced the new medical school will be named in honor of HCA co-founder Dr. Thomas Frist, Jr.

Once it reaches full capacity, the school will graduate about 150 new doctors a year.

HCA currently owns and operates some 186 hospitals in 21 states and the UK.
