NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- Metro health officials reported 49 new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed during the 24 hours ending Monday morning, and health officials revealed the virus related death of a third city resident.
Nashville currently has 434 confirmed coronavirus infections. Fourteen individuals are hospitalized due to complications caused by COVID-19. Eighty city residents have now recovered from the illness. The new coronavirus victim is said to be a 59-year-old man.
Nashville opened two of its long-anticipated, drive-through, coronavirus assessment and testing centers Monday morning. One site is located in the Nissan Stadium parking lot. The other is located at Meharry Medical College. A third site is scheduled to open in Antioch on Wednesday.
Health officials stressed that Nashvillians must be pre-screened before arriving at the drive-through test sites. To be screened, anyone believing they may have contracted COVID-19 should call 615-862-7777. You can call that number seven days a week between seven a.m. and seven p.m.
Hotline assessments are available to those who speak Spanish. There is no charge and assessment is available to everyone, regardless of immigraiton status.
Resonding to questions from reporters, health officials noted that there are a number of COVID-19 patients being treated in Nashville hospitals that are not Metro residents or even Tennessee residents. Officials noted that this is expected because Nashville is a regional hub for medical care.
Officials also revealed that they are getting daily briefings from representatives of the Nursing Home industry in Middle Tennessee. Officials say they are confident the city's nursing homes are doing every thing they can to protect residents. Over the weekend, A Gallatin nursing home had to be evacuated and closed when dozens of residents and staff tested postivite for COVID-19. Two residents have died.
