Expect weekend interstate closures to snarl downtown traffic

TDOT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- If your travels take you through downtown Nashville this weekend, expect major traffic delays.

Construction on the overpass at I-440 and I-65 will close both highways from Friday night through Monday morning. A portion of Franklin Road will also be closed between Berry Road and Woodmont Boulevard.

It’s part of the Tennessee Department of Transportation's $153 million dollar I-440 reconstruction. TDOT Project Manager Clayton Markham says expect long delays.

“If you could avoid the area that would just help congestion and keep congestion down. If you for some reason are unable to avoid the area please allow yourself extra time.”

I-65 traffic will be detoured to I-440. While I-440 traffic will be detoured to I-65. TDOT has provided a map indicating the detour routes.

The closure at I-65 and I-440 begins Friday night at 9 p.m. and continues through Monday morning at 5 a.m.
