MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- It would be a good idea to call ahead if you plan on visiting a loved one in a mid-state nursing home this week.
A lot of Tennessee homes have again closed their doors to all visitors.
The Tennessean notes that state emergency restrictions require nursing home closures if the county they are located in averages more than 10 new cases a day per 100,000 residents. The recent surge in confirmed coronavirus cases has pushed many mid-state counties above that level.
State officials have reported a total of 197 deaths in nursing homes to date. Of the 967 COVID-19 related fatalities Tennessee has reported so far, about one-in-5 has occurred in a nursing home.
