MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- Tennessee’s Marsha Blackburn was one of just six Senators to vote against the $900 billion pandemic aid package.
The bi-partisan aid deal was approved by Blackburn’s Senate colleagues Monday.
President Donald Trump has now threatened to veto the measure, saying in part that Congress should provide larger direct aid payments to Americans.
In a press statement, Blackburn says her objections include the addition of mostly unrelated provisions that expand visas, offer Pell Grants to inmates, and provide economic aid to unregistered residents. She also believes the aid package’s price tag could impact the nation’s economic recovery.
Tennessee Congressman Jim Cooper voted in favor of the aid deal, but also had complaints about the legislation. The Nashville Democrat wrote on social media that "We need MORE stimlus...this is not enough help for most families to get through the holidays."
