MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. will make an appearance this week here in Middle Tennessee.

The son of Civil Rights icon the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Jess Jackson Jr. is scheduled to speak Friday on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.  He was originally slated to be MTSU’s keynote speaker for Black History Month festivities in February, but had to reschedule the appearance.

The Congressman is widely recognized as a social-justice and anti-death-penalty advocate and served as President Obama’s national campaign co-chair during the 2008 election.

MTSU Black History Month Committee Chairman Vincent Windrow says Jackson included Middle Tennessee in his itinerary so that he could consult with an MTSU professor who specializes in the subject of constitutional amendments.

"Dr. John Vile, who is the Dean of our Honor College, has done a significant amount of work around the constitution and its history. Congressman Jackson was interested in meeting with Vile regarding that."

Jesse Jackson Jr.’s MTSU appearance is free and open to the public.  His presentation begins at 7 p.m. Friday evening in the Business and Aerospace Building.
