Green Party Candidates on November Ballot?

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Green Party of Tennessee is preparing to put candidates for state office on the November ballot.

Last month the Green Party nominated 12 candidates for office, including three in Middle Tennessee,  after a federal judge ruled the state may not enforce rules that the Green Party claims are election roadblocks.

Green Party  Co-Chair Katey Culver says her organization has been in court fighting for the right to put candidates on the Tennessee ballot since 2007.

“A big part of our campaign and our platform is to get that moneyed interest out of politics and out of making those decisions and get it back into the hands of the people with some grass-roots democracy where people can get in and talk about the issues.”

The state is appealing the ruling and to date hasn’t placed Green candidates on the ballot. The appeal will be heard July 25th in the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.
