Annual Conference Explores Economic Outlook

Tenn.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Business and finance executives from across Middle Tennessee will converge on Murfreesboro Friday for the annual Middle Tennessee State University Economic Outlook Conference.

Dr. Jim Burton, Dean of the MTSU College of Business, says he’s expecting well over 100 executives and a few students to attend. This year’s special emphasis will be on the banking sector and Tennessee Banking Commissioner Greg Gonzalez will be the featured speaker.

Burton says the conference is underwritten through a fund created by the late Jennings A. Jones.

“It was Mr. Jones dream that we would be able to promote dialogue and a better understanding about free enterprise and how the system really works and as I look on a national basis I think his idea of what we needed is absolutely dead to form. We have an awful lot of folks who don’t seem to understand the economic system of our country.”

Dean Burton says researchers with the College of Business and MTSU’s Business and  Economic Research Center will make predictions during the conference about the economic year ahead.

The conference will be held Friday morning at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro and will get underway at 9:00 a.m.
