MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Randolph Maidens apologized to his in-laws and his daughter yesterday after pleading guilty to his wife’s murder.

WTVF-TV reports that in court yesterday Maidens pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the April 2013 death of well-known Brentwood dentist Rachel Maidens. Randolph Maidens will serve 25 years. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of child neglect that added two years to the sentence.

Police say Maidens shot and killed his wife inside their upscale home in the Governor’s Club neighborhood in Brentwood.

Maidens reportedly tried to clean up the crime scene before fleeing the home. Police locked down the area fearing that Maidens might still be armed. He eventually walked out of the woods near his home and surrendered to police.

Maidens originally pleaded not guilty to all counts.
