MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis officials say 200 more untested sexual assault kits have been found in a storage facility, adding to the backlog of about 12,000 rape kits that sat untested for years.

The Commercial Appeal reports that Deputy Police Chief Jim Harvey briefed Memphis City Council members Tuesday as part of his monthly update on fixing the backlog of untested kits.

Experts say Memphis has one of the nation's largest known backlogs of rape kits. Thousands of the backlogged kits have been tested since they were discovered last year, and authorities are working to identify suspects from the evidence and charge them. Rape victims have filed a lawsuit over the untested kits.

Harvey says testing of old sexual assault kits has led to indictments against 26 suspects.
