Will flooding be the mid-state's next weather worry?

Rutherford County EMA

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The passage of a strong cold front Monday night may not mean the end of Middle Tennessee’s weather worries.

The Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency reported a number of flooded roads Monday morning. The agency’s Tim Hooker said nine roads in all had been closed, with a bridge washed out at County Farm Road and Halls Branch.

Hooker said residents need to turn around and find another route if they encounter high water.

“We’ve had several rescues today with people attempting to drive through high water and their car stalls and we gotta pull them out of the water. It’s not worth the risk. So please, if you see water going over a road, stop and turn around.”

The Nashville Office of the National Weather Service said area flooding may get worse before it gets better. Meteorologist John Cohen says we could see additional rain in the next couple days.

“The rivers and streams throughout the area are a concern, so we’re gonna’ have to continue to watch that as we remain a bit unsettled through mid-week.”

Cohen notes that - half way through October - the mid-state has already seen more rain than it normally gets during the entire month.
