Weather Service to Examine Sumner County Storm Damage

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A strong storm passing through Sumner County yesterday afternoon gave Portland quite a beating.

Mid-state media report a team from the National Weather Service will take a look at the damage today to determine if it was caused by a tornado or straight line winds.

At one point yesterday Cumberland Electric was showing 800 homes without power as a result of the storm. Service crews had the lights back on in the city within a few hours.

Pictures on the Portland Fire Department Facebook page and the Sumner County Emergency Emergency Management Agency website show a lot of trees and power lines down.

A power pole landed on one vehicle and a falling tree damaged s home. Some roofs were partially damaged.

There have been no reports of injuries.
