MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- A woman walked into the Murfreesboro Police department yesterday to report that she’d been raped at the homeless camp under the South Church Street bridge.
The 43-year-old woman tells police she was visiting with friends at the camp, and reportedly admitted they were smoking synthetic marijuana.
She decided to spend the night in a tent at the camp and tells police she awoke later that night to find a man having sex with her. She says the encounter was against her will, but she didn’t fight back.
The woman was able to name her attacker and says he admitted to the encounter the next morning.
The woman wasn’t able to provide an exact date for the assault, but says it occurred within the last one to two months. She told police she waited to make her report because she feared witnesses at the camp would lie about the incident.
The MPD says it has assigned a detective to the case.
