MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Police say they’ve arrested a Murfreesboro couple in connection with the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.
Thirty-eight-year-old Cardinal Street resident Craig L. McCord was arrested last Wednesday on charges of Sexual Battery by an Authority Figure and Violation of the Sex Offender Registry. His wife, Virginia L. McCord was arrested for Failure to Report Child Sex Abuse.
MPD detectives say they brought the McCord’s in for questioning following allegations of child sex abuse. Police say they learned the child, who isn’t related to the McCords, had spent the night in their home.
Police say they had the girl “forensically interviewed” and learned that she woke during the night to find Craig McCord touching her inappropriately.
Authorities say McCord is a registered sex offender and violated the conditions of the registry.
The McCords were arrested and booked into the Rutherford County Jail and will make their initial court appearance one week from today, Monday, August 17, 2015.
