MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- A Murfreesboro teen was shot and critically wounded over the weekend.
Murfreesboro Police says they were called to Overhill Ct. Saturday evening in response to a shooting incident. The first officers on the scene found a 15-year-old boy shot once in the head. He was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in critical condition.
In a police incident report out this morning, the teen's mother is quoted saying she returned home from shopping Saturday afternoon to find her son lying on his bed with a single gunshot wound above the right eye. She told police there was a handgun lying on his chest.
The boy's mother tells police the gun doesn’t belong to anyone in the family. She added that her son has shown no signs of depression or ever spoken of harming himself.
The Daily News Journal Says Murfreesboro Police do not suspect foul play.
The newspaper reports that a large crowd of supports gathered at Ken Nolan Stadium last night to pray for the Seigel High student.
