OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) — Oak Ridge Police have identified the man accused of causing a security scare at the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant as Timothy Preston, of Clinton.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1KqkPba) Preston is charged with trespassing, vandalism and driving with a revoked license. Police say he drove through the main Y-12 security gates at about 6 a.m. Thursday, crashed his vehicle and fled into the woods on foot.
The entire facility was shut down throughout the morning with workers not allowed to enter or exit. Police eventually arrested Preston at about 7:40 a.m.
Y-12 spokesman Steven Wyatt said there was no risk to the plant's nuclear operations.
Police haven't said what Preston was doing at Y-12, but they said he could face additional charges based on his statements to police.
