MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  It was a busy weekend for Murfreesboro Police with a half-dozen assaults reported in the city, including a number of shots fired incidents and one stabbing.

A party held Saturday night on West College Street turned violent as guests were leaving at around 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Private security guards hired to staff the event say an altercation between the guards and guests resulted in several shots being fired at them.

One guard tells police he then retrieved a shotgun from his car and returned fire.

Security wasn’t able to provide detailed descriptions of the assailants, but do say the vehicles firing on them included a black Nissan Maxima, a white Landrover, and a black Chrysler.

Police say they recovered 40 caliber handgun rounds and 3 shotgun shells at the scene. There were no reports of injuries.

The case has been turned over to MPD detectives for investigation. If you have any information about this incident, call Murfreesboro Crime Stoppers at 615-893-STOP. That’s 893-7867.
