Franklin police warn residents of recent kidnapping scam

franklin-gov.com

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) — Police in Franklin are warning residents about a recent kidnapping scam in Williamson County.

Local media outlets report police Lt. Charles Warner says at least three Franklin residents have been targeted with the fake calls in March.

Police say the scammers told the residents that they had kidnapped and would kill their loved one if they didn't immediately wire them cash.

In one of the calls, a female pretended to be the victim's alleged kidnapped daughter before turning the phone over to a man who demanded $5,000.

Warner says anyone who receives a similar call should attempt to slow the conversation down, ask for more time and contact the alleged kidnapping victim as well as police.

Anyone with information about the scam is asked to contact police or the FBI.
