GOP state lawmakers urge Tennesseans to get vaccinated

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne ) -- The GOP leadership of the State Senate are asking Tennesseans to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Senate Republican Caucus on Tuesday released a letter noting that a “strong majority” of recent infections are among the unvaccinated and “virtually all of those currently hospitalized with COVID-19 have not been vaccinated.”

The letter goes on to “strongly urge Tennesseans who do not have a religious objection or a legitimate medical issue to get vaccinated.”

Many Republican state lawmakers declined to wear a mask during the 2021 legislative session. They also passed a number of measures during the session that placed controversial restrictions on pandemic safety measures.

Seven months after COVID-19 vaccines were made available, just 38.9 percent of Tennessee residents are fully vaccinated against the virus.
