"Got Milk?" Put Out to Pasture

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The now iconic milk producer’s “Got Milk?” ad campaign is being put out to pasture.

The campaign was launched in 1993 to boost declining milk sales. The much imitated ads featured celebrities wearing milk mustaches and asking that now famous question.

Milk consumption is reportedly flagging again and so a fresh producer’s campaign was launched. The new special-effects driven “Milk Life” ads feature splashes of milk propelling people through work and play.

Here in Tennessee the situation is a little different. Farmers aren’t producing enough milk to meet in-state demand. Dr. Warren Gill, who heads the Ag Department at Middle Tennessee State, says Tennessee producers are actually looking to add capacity.

“So there’s some optimism coming back. There’s some larger producers that are looking at Tennessee. We have at least one producer moving in from California that is already building…already started milikng, and plans to have a 1500 cow dairy.”

MTSU’s Dairy operation is one of the largest in the state and Gill says current milk prices are some of the best he’s ever seen.
