WMOT, 89.5 FM, MTSU’s flagship public radio station founded in 1969, is making the biggest, boldest leap in its history Sept 2, 2016 when it dedicates itself to an all Americana music format. Branded as “Roots Radio,” the initiative is a partnership with the music experts and on-air talents of Music City Roots, the Franklin-based weekly variety show that reaches the nation on radio and public television. At last, the Nashville region will have a powerful radio station (100,000 watts) dedicated to the music most deeply connected to Music City’s legacy: classic country music, bluegrass, singer/songwriter, folk, soul, R&B and old-school rock and roll.
Watch the live launch event from the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville Friday, September. 2 starting at 11 a.m. on WMOT.org .
Live DJs will be on the air weekdays from 6 am to 7 pm, including our peerless program director Jessie Scott, who’ll drive you home in the 4 to 7 slot. Featured programming will include Lost Sounds, mining the Center For Popular Music’s archives with Greg Reish, a new Bluegrass Situation Radio Hour, rocking gospel on Sunday mornings with star artist Mike Farris and The String, interviews on culture, media and American music with journalist Craig Havighurst. And so much more to come. Sign up for the new Roots Radio Signal newsletter and follow us on Twiter: @WMOT_RootsRadio.
