Lifeway Research: Face masks, social distancing generate church conflicts

Lifeway Research

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  A new survey says almost three in ten protestant pastors are having trouble managing pandemic related conflict in their churches.

The survey was conducted by the Nashville based Southern Baptist Convention's Lifeway Research.

Pastors told Lifeway they’re under pressure from deeply divided churches over the use of face masks and holding in-person services.

One pastor wrote that some in his church won’t come out of their homes for fear of the virus, while others think the pandemic is a hoax.

Another pastor commented that “Different political opinions on both sides elevated to the point of doctrine.”
