NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  The coronavirus pandemic is on track to kill more Tennesseans than the infamous Spanish Flu.

The Tennessee Historical Society notes that 7721 state residents died during the Influenza Pandemic during 1918 and 1919.

At its current pace, the number of COVID-19 fatalities statewide will exceed that number early in January.

Projections by the University of Washington show Tennessee reaching 7800 dead by January 7th. The UW predictions say some 5,000 more deaths will occur statewide in the next 100 days.

State health records show an average of 62 Tennesseans are now dying every 24 hours.
