nytimes.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Tennessee currently tops a list of communities suffering the nation’s worst surges of COVID-19.

The New York Times maintains a tool on its website that monitors virus outbreaks adjusted for population in cities nationwide. Nine of the 20 cities with the fastest growing new case counts are located in Tennessee.

California is a distant second with four cities in the list.

As of Wednesday morning, Sevierville, Cleveland, Athens, Tullahoma and Greeneville, Tennessee, were all in the list’s top ten.

Sevierville has seen its new case count nearly triple in just the past seven days.
