Tennessee Attorney General decries abortion decision by President Biden

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Tennessee’s Attorney General has joined 21 other state AGs condemning the Biden Administration’s move to end the Hyde Amendment on abortion.

The political compromise was approved by Congress in the mid-1970s. It prohibited the use of federal funds to perform abortions, with some exceptions.

President Biden has signaled he intends to end the prohibition.

Tennessee Republican AG Herbert Slattery sent a letter to Congressional leaders yesterday, writing in part “Prohibiting the federal funding of most abortions is what both Democrats and Republicans have supported for decades and should not be changed.”

Planned Parenthood applauded the move calling it an “important step to end the decades of harm imposed by this ...deeply harmful rule.”
