Vanderbilt and Meharry looking for COVID-19 vaccine trial volunteers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Vanderbilt Medical Center’s COVID-19 vaccine trials are now underway and the hospital is looking for additional volunteers.

Vanderbilt is conducting the tests for a vaccine under development by the Moderna pharmaceutical company in partnership with the federal government.

Vanderbilt needs a thousand people to participate in the late-stage trial of the experimental vaccine. It’s open to those 18 and older.

Each participant will receive two shots of either the vaccine or an inactive placebo and will be followed for two years.

WTVF-TV notes that Meharry Medical College is also seeking volunteers for coronavirus vaccine trials. Meharry is specifically looking for inviduals of color to participate in its study.  Look for those details here.
