WMOT's Top 100 Album Spins for 2019
What a year 2019 has been! At WMOT, we have been busy finding cool new tunes from emerging and legendary artists to play for you in our eclectic mix of roots music. It is quite the moment here in Nashville, especially as it becomes the epicenter of the music business as the city grows. That makes it attractive for musicians to relocate to be part of the scene. Music City has become even more of a many splendored melting pot, with every imaginable genre represented.
There were notable breakouts this year, from the long awaited Highwomen debut (Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, Maren Morris, Natalie Hemby), to the astonishing voice and presence of Londoner, Yola. From Clarksdale, MS, Christone Kingfish Ingram put the electric in the blues, and Molly Tuttle found acclaim beyond the bluegrass world, wowing us with her flying fingers and reed-like voice.
Delbert McClinton brought a big band extravaganza, Rodney Crowell steeped us in Texas tradition, and Tanya Tucker made a triumphant return to recording with Brandi Carlile and Shooter Jennings producing. Check out our best of the year lists for more. The message is there is plenty of great new music coming out. You can hear our hand-curated daily feast of flavors on 89.5 in Middle Tennessee or streaming at WMOT.org .
