Blue Raider Football Loses Key Player for the Season

MTSU Sports

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill says senior running back Benny Cunningham will miss the rest of the season after hurting his left knee in last weekend's win at FIU.

Results of Cunningham's MRI exam came back Monday, and Stockstill says Cunningham will have surgery by the end of this week.

Cunningham leads the Sun Belt Conference rushing for 600 yards with 11 touchdowns, and that also ranks him 13th in yards rushing and third in TDs scored nationally. He had his second 200-yard rushing game with a career-high 230 yards in the win at FIU. He also had 217 yards rushing when Middle Tennessee won at Georgia Tech earlier this season.

Middle Tennessee (4-1) visits No. 15 Mississippi State (6-0) on Saturday.
