MURFREESBRORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Critics and scholars from 16 states and 10 countries are converging on the mid-state for an academic conference focusing on the cultural impact of the recently concluded AMC television program Mad Men.

The three day conference begins Thursday on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University. Keynote speakers include Matt Zoller Seitz, New York film critic and author of Mad Men Carousel, and Dr. Mimi White, a professor at Northwestern University whose work examines TV and gender.

MTSU’s Dr. David Lavery is one of the conference coordinators.

“Mad Men has been an absolute field day for Gender Studies, and in fact my co-MTSU-convener, Jane Marcellus in Journalism is the co-author of a book on Mad Men and Working Women.”

Some of the Mad Men lectures are free and open to the public. Others are open to the public but require a registration fee. Look for the details at MTSUNews.com.

One possible shortcoming for those attending MTSU’s Mad Men: The Conference …the university is a smoke-free campus.
