JoAnn Falletta to Lead the Irish Chamber Orchestra in a 13-City US Tour Beginning October 26

Acclaimed conductor JoAnn Falletta will lead the Irish Chamber Orchestra in a nine state, 13-city tour of the United States from October 26 through November 12, 2013.  Renowned Belfast-born flutist, Sir James Galway will be the soloist on the tour. Also featured on the program is Lady Jeanne Galway.

The concerts will be highlighted by the US premiere of Belfast composer Philip Hammond's Carolan Variations performed by Sir James and Lady Jeanne Galway.  Sir James will also perform Herbert Hamilton Harty's, In Ireland, fantasy for flute and harp, and Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major.  The programs will alternate performances of Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 ("Scottish") and Mozart's Symphony No. 41 ("Jupiter").

JoAnn Falletta serves as Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic and Virginia Symphony in the United States and Principal Conductor of the Ulster Orchestra in Northern Ireland. She has guest conducted over one hundred orchestras in North America, and many of the most prominent orchestras in Europe, Asia and South America and is the Principal Guest Conductor of the Phoenix Symphony and Brevard Music Center of North Carolina. Recipient of the Seaver/National Endowment for the Arts Conductors Award, winner of the Stokowski Competition, and the Toscanini, Ditson and Bruno Walter conducting awards, Falletta has also received eleven ASCAP awards and serves on the US National Council on the Arts. A champion of American music, she has presented over five hundred works by American composers including 110 world premieres. Her Naxos recordings include the double Grammy Award winning disc of works by John Corigliano and Grammy nominated discs of works of Tyberg, Dohnányi, Fuchs, Schubert, Strauss, Respighi, Gershwin, Hailstork and Holst.  Recent BPO releases include Marcel Tyberg's Symphony No. 2 and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.  The Ulster recordings include the second disc of the music of Moeran, and the first of two volumes of the music of John Knowles Paine.

consummate entertainer,Sir James Galway has performed across the world with the leading orchestras, the most  prestigious conductors and for numerous world dignitaries. This tour marks a special anniversary for Sir James Galway, who made his American debut with the Irish Chamber Orchestra 35 years ago.  Sir James held the coveted position of principal flute with the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan, launching his career as a soloist in 1975, and boasts a discography of over 65 recordings.

Lady Jeanne Galway

Lady Jeanne Galway is a frequent duo partner with Sir James and the two have a distinctive musical rapport that has delighted audiences worldwide. This tour is also a special reunion for Lady Galway and JoAnn Falletta who were students together at the Mannes College of Music and later served as Falletta's principal flute at the Queens Philharmonic.
