Meet Us at the Bridge event memorializes Nashville domestic violence victims, survivors
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE) -- Nashville will remember the victims of domestic violence Saturday morning as part of October’s National Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities.
Survivors and supporters will gather at 10 a.m. on the pedestrian bridge downtown for the 15th annual Meet Us At the Bridge remembrance ceremony.
Last October dozens of survivors, friends and family gathered for the event. One survivor shared her domestic assault experience.
“It’s just the most ungodly, ungodly thing that I’ve ever been through and I know you guys feel the same way. It’s been a year that seems like two weeks and I still don’t know if I’ll get through it.”
Last year Metro Police responded to more than 1400 domestic assaults, including 67 cases of rape and 11 homicides.
The Nashville District Attorney’s Office says domestic incidents make up half of the violent crimes it handles each year.
