Study: Tennessee youth homicides up 106 percent

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- Tennessee has seen a sharp increase in gun related violence and death over the past decade.

 

The group Safe Tennessee Project analyzed federal gun injury data between 2008 and 2018. The numbers are grim, especially for young people.

 

Over the decade the number of total gun related homicides jumped by 41 percent.

 

Gun driven homicides among young people 19 and under increased by a shocking 106 percent. The number of childrne using a gun to committ suicide increased by 127 percent over ten years.
