Vanderbilt to weigh in on controversy surrounding hydroxychloroquine

cdc.gov

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- Vanderbilt Medical Center hopes to bring clarity to the debate over whether the drug hydroxycholoroquine is safe and effective in treating COVID-19.

President Donald Trump has aggressively promoted the drug for use against coronavirus. However, many physicians and researchers warn the drug is both untested for that use and can have dangerous side effects.

Vanderbilt says it’s begun a study of the issue that will eventually enroll hundreds of mid-state patients.

The study’s being underwritten by the federal National Institutes of Health.
