NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Attorneys for voting rights groups want Tennessee officials held in contempt of court over their response to an order allowing all Tennessee voters to vote by mail during the coronavirus pandemic.
The state says the groups are citing outdated information.
In a Davidson County Chancery Court filing Monday night, plaintiffs attorneys wrote that the state created a new COVID-19 option on the absentee application that the judge didn't order and told local election officials Friday not to distribute applications for coronavirus-related requests yet.
State Elections Coordinator Mark Goins said Tuesday the plaintiffs ignore updated state guidance later Friday instructing local officials to start using the new forms.
