Brentwood man goes on trial in Japan Sept. 15, could get a 10 year sentence

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT/AP)  --  The Tennessee executive caught up in the scandal surrounding former Nissan Chairman Carlos Ghosn goes on trial in Japan later this month.

Brentwood resident and former Nissan North America Vice President Greg Kelly is facing charges that he helped Ghosn under-report his income.

The 63-year-old Kelly has been held by Japanese authorities for two years. Ghosn managed to slip away from house arrest late last year and fled Japan for Lebanon.

Greg Kelly could face up to a decade in prison if convicted. Kelly maintains his innocence and says the real motive behind the case was a “corporate coup” to oust Ghosn.

Kelly's trial is scheduled to begin September 15.
