SBC considering name change to 'Great Commission Baptist'
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- The Nashville based Southern Baptist Convention is considering a name change.
The Washington Post quotes SBC officials saying the current name is a “potentially painful reminder of the convention’s historic role in support of slavery.”
The name “Great Commission Baptists” is under consideration.
The SBC’s 50,000 churches are autonomous and so will make their own decisions about the proposal.
