NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) -- The White House has urged Tennessee to impose mandatory health restrictions statewide to bring COVID-19 under control, something Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has so far been unwilling to do.
CNN says the latest White House Coronavirus Task Force report specifically recommends mask mandates, closing bars, and limiting restaurant occupancy. Some of those restrictions are already in place in Nashville and the state’s other large cities.
However, Gov. Lee has declined to impose stronger mandates statewide. He urges instead that Tennesseans take personal responsibility for their own health and safety.
The report specifically recommends, "without public health orders in place compelling Tennesseans to act differently, the spread will remain unyielding with significant impact on the healthcare system."
The state last month marked new, all-time highs for virus related fatalities, confirmed new infections and hospitalizations.
