Police union blasts Nash. councilman for Christmas bombing comments

Mayor John Cooper (Twitter)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Metro Nashville’s police union said this past weekend that it is “shocked and appalled” by comments on the Christmas Day bombing by City Councilman Bob Mendes.

Mendes wrote a lengthy blog post New Year’s Eve that praised Metro Officers for heroically evacuating 2nd Ave. residents ahead of the explosion.

However, the councilman also questioned why MNPD failed to follow up on a tip ahead of the attack that Anthony Warner was building a bomb.

Mendes asked in is post if police would have acted differently had the tip involved a “black Muslim man.”

The Nashville FOP fired off an angry response the same day accusing Mendes of painting “every officer in this city as a racist.”
