CHARLOTTE, Tenn. (AP) — The trial for a Dickson County man who is accused of killing his 5-year-old son is underway.

Joe Clyde Daniels was reported missing April 4, 2018.

His father, Joseph Daniels, is charged with first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty.

News outlets report District Attorney Ray Crouch and defense lawyer Jake Lockert laid out their cases in opening statements Thursday.

Lockert said there is a lack of physical evidence and nothing to prove his client killed the child. WTVF-TV reports Crouch told jurors that Joe Clyde’s brother witnessed Joseph Daniels beating the boy to death.
