In 2021, Tennesseans will have more Obamacare health policy choices, some premiums falling

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne)  --  Tennessee insurance authorities have so far approved six health insurance carriers to offer Obamacare policies in the state next year.

The Tennessee Department of Insurance says next year residents in 81 of the state’s 95 counties will have two or more Affordable Care Act policies to choose from. Compare that to 2017 when most Tennesseans had just one health policy option.

BlueCross BlueShield, Bright Health and Oscar Health are all raising rates. Celtic and Cigna plan to lower premiums. UnitedHealthcare will offer Obamacare policies in Tennessee for the first time in 2021.

Healthinsurance.org says some 200,000 Tennesseans are currently enrolled in Obamacare. That's down sharply from 268,000 enrollees in 2019.

This year’s Obamacare open enrollment period begins November 1 and ends December 15.
